Celina’s commercial momentum continues with the opening of Academy Sports + Outdoors, adding another major national retailer to the rapidly developing Preston Road corridor.
Academy officially opened its new Celina location on August 28, 2026, at 3525 S. Preston Road in The Village at Ownsby Farms. Community leaders joined Academy representatives to celebrate the opening and welcome the company to Celina.
The approximately 64,000-square-foot store offers sporting goods, outdoor recreation equipment, apparel, footwear, fitness equipment, hunting and fishing gear, and products for youth and team sports.
The opening represents another important step in Celina’s continued transition from a fast-growing residential community into a more complete community where residents have greater access to shopping, dining, services and employment opportunities close to home.
A Transformational Week for Retail in Celina
Academy’s arrival caps a significant stretch of commercial openings for Celina.
Within days, The Home Depot, Costco Wholesale and Academy Sports + Outdoors all opened locations along Preston Road, bringing three nationally recognized retailers to the community and marking a major milestone in Celina’s commercial growth.
For the Celina Economic Development Corporation and the City of Celina, these openings reflect years of intentional planning, infrastructure investment, relationship building and collaboration with property owners, developers and the private sector.
As Celina’s population continues to grow, attracting quality commercial development is an important part of creating a strong and sustainable local economy. New retail investment provides residents with more opportunities to shop locally while generating sales tax revenue that supports the community and helping establish Celina as an increasingly important destination within North Texas.
